  19. Major release of popular NEXTSTEP word processing application
  20.  
  21. SPRINGHOUSE, PA, July 29, 1994 - Anderson Financial
  22. Systems Inc. today announced that WriteUp 1.1, an upgrade to its
  23. full-featured, low-cost native word processor for NEXTSTEP, is
  24. shipping.
  25.  
  26. "We spent much of our time improving performance and
  27. reliability," said Gregory H. Anderson, Founder and CEO of AFS,
  28. "but this release also adds a series of frequently requested
  29. features like mail merge, columns, and an API that gives
  30. programmers access to the WriteUp feature set. The beta test
  31. group included more than 100 people, including many 1.0 users,
  32. so we have a high level of confidence in this release."

  34. In addition to mail merge and columns, various forms of
  35. underlining, redlining and strike-out are now supported as text
  36. attributes. Redlining also provides a means to process the
  37. modified document, removing struck-out passages and inserting
  38. redlined passages, with one keystroke. Other notable new features
  39. include: updating date and time markers, visible text markers for
  40. tabs and spaces, NeXT-style word selection, item "locking" to
  41. prevent accidental modifications to document elements, and a
  42. special "screen/printer" toggle that makes documents easier to
  43. read on screen while retaining WriteUp's excellent typography on
  44. paper.

  46.  RTF importing and exporting have experienced major
  47. improvements, including the ability to interchange RTFD (text with
  48. embedded graphics) seamlessly with other applications like Mail
  49. and Edit. And the Igor document service has been changed into a
  50. standard filter service that now includes the ability to read
  51. WordPerfect 5.x documents.

  53. Registered users of WriteUp 1.0 will receive free upgrades
  54. to 1.1. New copies can be ordered at a price of US $295 (US $149
  55. student) + shipping and handling. There is also a 5-pack license
  56. available for US$1,195. A 30-day evaluation version, which is
  57. fully enabled and includes a user manual, can be purchased from
  58. AFS for US$20. This price is not refundable, but it is fully
  59. applicable towards eventual purchase. In addition, an electronic
  60. demo version will be available for FTP access from the Stepwise
  61. server in early August.

  63. WriteUp 1.1 ships MAB for Motorola and Intel hardware; a
  64. beta HP PA-RISC version is available from AFS by request. AFS has
  65. committed to shipping a final HP release within 30 days after NeXT
  66. and HP release the final version of that OS.
